CUSTOM REBORN DOLLS
Portrait, Memory, Memorial & Unique Baby Dolls

A professional custom reborn doll artist is able to create a very realistic baby doll using any sculpt and knows which sculpt to use to create a particular baby from a photograph. Preemies, Newborn, Toddler or Child size.
My interest in the art of custom made reborn dolls has come about as a result of the growing demand for dolls with the characteristics that truly represent our diverse human reality. Currently, there are very few doll makers offering dolls that express characteristic that are unique. It seems the only dolls available are rather rudimentary hand made dolls that feature disability equipment and medical gear, but I have had little success in finding a reborn baby doll artist who is making so called Down Syndrome Dolls or Disability Dolls or just life like diverse dolls.
I have attributed this lack of diverse or disabled or Downs Syndrome Dolls, to the criticism that came out recently against them; it was said that these dolls were not accurately representative of the widely varied, of course, and diverse community of people we now refer to as differently-abled. The characteristics portrayed on the dolls features, it was thought, were contributing to an already troublesome stereotyping of the differently-abled. Stereotyping is not good, we all can agree on that. However, now the reborn doll artists are leaving the whole thing alone and just not making differently born dolls at all.
In my opinion, the reborn doll artists I know or whose work & philosophy I have researched, are creating these life like baby dolls with all the love that resides in the heart of their artistic creativity. They are just like all artists; painters, musicians, authors; they tap into the great divine creator and then they let the creation emerge through their art. They create these beautiful and unique baby dolls with a great deal of love. I am not surprised that they would refrain from making any kind of doll that would cause anyone any pain.
However, the world still now lacks realistic baby dolls that represent kids who have blessed our world with many diverse faces & bodies.
I have said it before: We do not want a world where everyone is able to fit into the same narrow, arbitrary and redundant NORM. Who is NORM anyway. The awesome truth of the human reality (and snowflakes too apparently) is that no two are the same and therefore every single one of us is must be classified as DIFFERENT. Who exactly is deciding which of the types of humans/snowflakes are the beautiful ones and which ones the different.?I challenge every person to ask themselves if they, in their heart of hearts, does not feel abnormal or not quite up to the standard of beautiful or normal. The answer, I already know, is that every one of us does not even come close to measuring up, and we are all of us subdued by the fear of being discovered as sub par humans. This situation is what the Beverly Hillbillies, a very diverse & much loved TV family, called HOGWASH! Time for our civilization to grow up, evolve and move forward on accepting that every human being is a different human being from every other human being. Simple!
I am calling, now, upon the people who buy reborn baby dolls to contact one of the many incredibly wonderful and talented reborn doll artists who are able to create any doll with any characteristics to represent any child (I will list some at the end of this article). Get in touch and ask them to create a special doll for you. I know that they would be honoured to create a doll with whichever characteristics you choose, including facial features, limb features, body shape & size, head shape & size. They are artists, basically 3D photo realism artists, and they can create any look you ask for. By using photos, descriptions and customer consultations, they create each doll uniquely at every stage of the doll making & reborning process.
With each doll being custom made to the doll buyers order, to represent one unique baby in our world of diversity, I do not think anyone can be offended. The dolls will not be labeled as anything but diversity dolls and so can not be representing anyone or anything except diversity itself. I am hoping that dolls will be made that reflect the full spectrum of human experience, including physical, mental, emotional, gender identity and sexual orientation. Everybody has to be invited to the party and nobody gets told to go home because they do not fit in to to old standard of NORM. (Norm is so old, now, that Norm is blind, so why are we even listening to what old Norm says is normal anymore).
I would like to see the doll world move forward again, on this issue of diversely-abled and diversely gendered or facially featured reborn baby doll & toddler dolls. Everyone, of every origin, must be represented in the doll world or we are excluding the kids who are not seeing themselves reflected in all the standard stereotyped perfect dolls that no one seems to be offended by. It is these so called perfect baby dolls that are offensively stereotyped to me, it is these pretty dolls that are different from most of human race in reality. But then I do just really really love RAINBOWS.
The reborn doll artists of our time, have taken the creation of realistic looking baby dolls to a new level. They are using their artistic talents to make dolls that have all the characteristics of a real human baby who has just been through the messy journey of being birthed. The reborn doll has creases, secretions, misshapen facial distortions, bruises, discolorations, veins, crustiness, wrinkles and every other REALISTIC feature of a real human baby. This is a gift for the human race, because the image our generation had of a baby did not include any reality at all. We are brainwashed through TV and movies and magazine images that are all touched up to surpass perfection. The TV babies did not cry. look ugly, smell funky or have any hair out of place ever. They did NOT drool or throw up. When our real babies were born and we saw the real thing, many of us were quietly horrified of the mess and the way our babies were all waxy, blotchy, swollen, bloodstained and, well, kind of ugly. I now see that ugliness as true & awesome beauty and I thank all the reborn artists for bringing a bit of authenticity back to parenting.
I would like to see this doll art go to even more realistic heights. Why not make more baby dolls that are not so pretty. Why not make more truly beautiful dolls that look like all the wild uniqueness of every baby born.
As Always, God Bless Absolutely Everyone!
