Sculpt Artists are the talented, yet often unacknowledged doll sculptors, who are very dedicated to creating truly unique and life like baby doll sculpts. It is from one of these artists sculpts that the incredible life like reborn dolls are then created by the Reborning Artist.Every year, the achievable realism of these beautiful baby dolls becomes more and more believable. It takes many weeks to create a work of love and art like these baby doll sculpts out of many layers of polymer clay. The uniqueness and realism of the truly great reborn dolls of this century begins with the characteristics that are sculpted into the face, hands & feet of the vinyl doll mold. This vinyl mold is created by actually sculpting the doll head, limbs and often a tummy or chest plate out of clay polymer. Clay polymer is a sculpting medium like 'Sculpty' or 'FIMO'. All the realistic details of the baby doll cheeks, lips, chin, & face shape are carved and sculpted into the sculpt. The clay mold is 'baked' at a medium temperature until it is very hard. Multiple copies are made of the mold, out of soft pale vinyl, often in limited editions of 200 - 500.

Usually, each vinyl doll kit will include a head/face with eye holes ready for eye insertion and the sculpted arms & legs. However, some of them will also come with an unstuffed or weighted doe suede or cloth body and also sometimes a realistic sculpted tummy/chest plate and sometimes the eyes. The prices of these sculpted kits varies, usually depending on what is included in the kit, so when you are comparing prices, make sure you are aware of what is included in each kit.
The whole reborn doll phenomenon would not even be possible without the talent and creativity of the doll sculptors themselves. The very processes that are used are continually being reinvented by these very creative artists, to produce more & more realistic life like babies. It's getting to the point where it is very difficult to tell a real baby from a reborn doll!
